NLA: Renting is a good option for some

In response to a select committee report into the supply of rented
housing, the National Landlords Association (NLA) has stated that
renting is not a "second-best option".
Although it praised the report for recognising the needs of
tenants, it also criticised the failure to highlight the importance
of local authorities in tackling rogue landlords and sub-standard
housing in the rental sector.
Professional landlords should be able to rely on their local
councils to clamp down on both bad landlords and tenants of the
sort that give renting a bad name, it suggested.
"According to government figures, 81 per cent of tenants are on
good terms with their landlords," David Salusbury, chairman of the
NLA, commented.
"It is good to see that the significant contribution landlords make
to the housing mix has once more been acknowledged," he
added.
The rental market is experiencing such high demand at the moment
that prospective tenants have only minutes to secure a property,
Aboutproperty.co.uk reported yesterday.
