Halifax: 'Extreme weather requires adequate home insurance'

With high winds and blizzards expected this weekend, homeowners
have been reminded of the importance of a comprehensive home
insurance policy.
This week, the Met Office issued warnings of severe gales in Wales,
London and the South West and South East.
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland and Scotland are expected to see heavy
snow, particularly in the north and west of the country.
Given the potential of such conditions to cause structural damage
to homes, it is imperative that homeowners ensure they have
sufficient cover, Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax
Home Insurance, said.
"With the average claim for storm damage costing around
£1,000, it is advisable for homeowners to take preventative
steps to reduce the risk of damage to their homes, and also ensure
they have adequate home insurance cover in place," Mr Foulds
explained.
Homeowners can also minimise the risk of damage by securing large
objects such as garden furniture and cutting back low-hanging
branches.
